Make an offer                                                                                       Next >>

Making an offer on a home is an exciting step - you've found the house you want and you're working towards making it your home.

Be sure you're serious about buying before you make an offer. If the seller accepts your offer, it becomes a legal contract after a few days.

Details and planning are important. Know what you would like to pay but also think about the most you're willing to pay and the total home financing amount that your lender has pre-approved you for. Be specific, and put everything in writing.

What are the steps in making an offer?

  • Negotiate a sales price: Negotiating is a standard practice in real estate, and something that your real estate agent will do on your behalf; learn more about it so it works for you. Discuss the process with your agent thoroughly. Again, this is where a professional help comes to use. Always remember, the listing agent will ALWAYS look out for the best interest of the seller. A buying agent will look out for yours.

  • Make an offer in writing: This is the time to think carefully about what you want and what you can afford. If your offer is accepted, it becomes a legally binding contract. Make sure you don't include anything in the offer that you're not totally comfortable with doing.

Be very careful before you submit an offer. A rule of thumb is "If you have any    doubts about the property, do not put an offer on it", unless you absolutely    know what you are dealing with.
